DELHI: Today(on 8th August), the Rouse Avenue court extended the judicial custody of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal till August 20 in connection with the Delhi Excise policy CBI case. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader was presented through video conferencing from Tihar Jail, continuing his detainment.
Earlier this week, the Delhi High Court dismissed Arvind Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) related to the Excise Policy matter.
The High Court firmly stated-
“It cannot be argued that Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest lacked a justifiable basis.”
This ruling further reinforced the grounds on which Kejriwal was apprehended.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has played a pivotal role in this case, having requested a brief adjournment to adequately address its plea for the cancellation of the bail previously granted to CM Kejriwal. This move by the ED highlights the ongoing scrutiny and legal challenges faced by the Delhi Chief Minister.

In a significant inquiry, the Delhi High Court questioned the ED about the potential consequences of cancelling Arvind Kejriwal’s bail. Specifically, the court sought clarification on whether such an action would lead to his re-arrest. This query aims to elucidate the full implications of the ED’s plea for bail cancellation, ensuring a thorough understanding before any decision is made.
The court has adjourned the matter for further consideration on September 5, 2024. This adjournment provides additional time for all parties involved to prepare and present their arguments comprehensively.
