Today, on 9th September, in the case concerning remarks against Amit Shah, Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer cross-examined a witness in the ongoing defamation case linked to his 2018 Karnataka campaign speech, where he allegedly made derogatory remarks, sparking political controversy and a prolonged legal battle.

The counsel for Rahul Gandhi, the MP from Rae Bareli, conducted a cross-examination of a witness in a defamation case against the Congress leader before an MP/MLA court.
The court has scheduled the next proceedings for September 23, when the cross-examination will continue.
Santosh Kumar Pandey, representing BJP leader Vijay Mishra, the complainant in the case, stated that witness Anil Mishra from Pitambarpur Kala appeared, and Gandhi’s attorney, Kashi Prasad Shukla, conducted the cross-examination.

BJP leader Vijay Mishra, represented by his lawyer Santosh Kumar Pandey, initiated the defamation case, claiming that Gandhi made derogatory remarks about Amit Shah during the Karnataka election campaign in 2018.
Consequently, a warrant was issued for Gandhi’s arrest in December 2023.
Earlier, In February 2024, Gandhi appeared in court and was granted bail with sureties. By July 26, 2024, he had provided his statement, asserting that the case is a politically motivated plot aimed at tarnishing his reputation.

The complaint was filed by BJP’s Vijay Mishra, who claimed Gandhi had accused Amit Shah of being a “murderer.”
After appearing and obtaining bail in February 2024, Gandhi’s legal team interrogated the witness in court on September 9, 2025.
The next hearing is scheduled for September 23.
