Chandigarh: This week (22nd May): A 33-year-old city-based advocate named Prakash Singh Marwah was arrested by the Chandigarh Police on Monday for allegedly impersonating a judicial officer. Marwah was sent to judicial custody by the district court.
According to the details, Marwah filed an application for bail before the court, and the court has issued a notice to the Chandigarh Police on 23rd May.
After his one-day police remand ended on 22nd May, Marwah was produced in the court of Ajay, JMIC (Judicial Magistrate First Class), which sent him to judicial custody at Burail jail.
Marwah’s bail application, filed through his counsel Vikas Malik and Rohit Khullar, states that he has been falsely implicated in the FIR and should be granted bail. Additionally, Marwah, through his counsel Gagandeep Goel and S L Goel, has approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court, challenging the order of one-day police remand granted by the JMIC court.

Background
The incident came to light after a video went viral about a man impersonating a JMIC (Judicial Magistrate First Class) and arguing with traffic policemen over a violation for which his SUV was stopped at a light point. Based on this, the Chandigarh Police registered an FIR against Marwah for allegedly impersonating a judicial officer and obstructing a public servant from discharging his duty.

Marwah, a resident of Sector 51, Chandigarh, was booked on the complaint of ASI Ajit Singh under sections 170 (personating a public servant), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public duties), and 419 (cheating by personation) of the Indian Penal Code at Sector 49 police station, Chandigarh. The accused was also issued a challan for a traffic violation of a red light signal and tampering with his number plate.
