Ahmedabad: Union Minister Amit Shah emphasized the vital role of lawyers in nation-building and the significance of their profession during an oath-taking ceremony for 11,000 young lawyers at the Bar Association of Gujarat.
He described the legal profession as a “sacred duty” essential for upholding the Constitution and delivering justice to citizens.
Shah stated,
“The profession you are joining today is not just a profession but a sacred duty to strengthen the Constitution and democracy and implement the constitutional rights to protect the property, body, and honor of 140 crore citizens.”
He acknowledged the contributions of jurists in shaping the law and maintaining the original spirit of the Constitution.
Pointing out that the Constitution has recently celebrated its 75th anniversary, he noted that significant changes have been made to criminal laws, and India has emerged as the world’s fifth-largest economy.
Shah remarked,
“You will bear the responsibility of protecting and effectively implementing the visionary, transparent, and inclusive Constitution established by our founding fathers.”
He highlighted recent government initiatives, such as the abolition of triple talaq and the introduction of the new education policy, as steps toward achieving social, economic, and political justice.
He also addressed the need for timely justice, stating,
“If it takes 20 years to get justice, then this trust cannot last for long,”
And mentioned the introduction of three new criminal laws aimed at expediting legal processes.
