Udit Narayan, famed Bollywood singer, faces legal issues as his first wife, Ranjana Jha, files a maintenance case amid controversy over a viral kiss, claiming property disputes and financial extortion.
Bollywood’s legendary singer Udit Narayan, known for his melodious voice, is in the spotlight—but not for his music. Days after a viral video of him kissing a female fan on the lips sparked controversy, he is now facing a legal case from his first wife, Ranjana Jha.
According to reports, Ranjana Jha has filed a maintenance case against Udit Narayan, accusing him of illegally taking her property. On February 21, 2025, Udit appeared before the Supaul Family Court, where he refused to settle the matter.
“She is trying to extort money from me,”
the singer reportedly claimed, as per a Navbharat Times report.
This is not the first legal battle between the two. Earlier, Ranjana had filed a case with the Bihar Women’s Commission, which was settled at the time.
Ranjana, through her lawyer, has stated that she wants to spend the rest of her life with Udit Narayan due to her declining health.
Speaking to the media outside the court, she claimed that:
- Udit Narayan has been ignoring her for years.
- He kept Rs 18 lakh from the sale of her land.
- She is followed by goons whenever she visits Mumbai.
Reports suggest that Udit initially paid her Rs 15,000 for maintenance, which was increased to Rs 25,000 in 2021. He also reportedly gave her farmland and a house worth Rs 1 crore.
The Bihar Women’s Commission previously found that Udit Narayan had also given her jewellery and land worth Rs 25 lakh, which she later sold.
Udit Narayan married Deepa Gahatraj in 1985, and they had a son, Aditya Narayan, in 1987. However, in 2006, Ranjana Jha publicly claimed to be his first wife during his show in Patna.
Initially, Udit denied her claims but later admitted their marriage. According to Ranjana, they were married in 1984 before he moved to Mumbai to pursue his singing career. She also alleged that he never informed her about his second marriage or sought a divorce.
With the Supreme Family Court proceedings ongoing, Udit Narayan now faces legal trouble on multiple fronts—his viral kiss controversy and the maintenance case filed by his first wife.
