The case also names six top officials of the automobile manufacturer, including the Managing Director and COO, over alleged defects in the Hyundai Alcazar SUV.
The Complaint
The FIR, registered in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, comes after resident and lawyer Kirti Singh alleged that his Hyundai Alcazar, purchased in June 2022 for over Rs 23 lakh, began developing serious technical issues within months of purchase. Singh claimed that the vehicle suffered performance problems, particularly when overtaking on highways, as the car failed to pick up speed despite rising RPM. A warning signal also appeared on the odometer.
Singh further alleged that these malfunctions almost led to accidents involving him and his family. Despite repeated complaints to the dealership, the issues remained unresolved. According to Singh, dealership staff admitted that the problem was a known manufacturing defect that could not be fixed.

Legal Action
When local police initially refused to register his complaint, Singh moved to court. Acting on the court’s directions, Mathura Gate Police Station in Bharatpur registered the FIR on August 25 under sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code, along with sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The accused include:
- Anso Kim (MD, Hyundai Motor India)
- Tarun Garg (COO, Hyundai Motor India)
- Nitin Sharma (MD, Malwa Auto Sales Pvt. Ltd.)
- Priyanka Sharma (Director, Malwa Auto Sales Pvt. Ltd.)
- Shah Rukh Khan (brand ambassador)
- Deepika Padukone (brand ambassador)
Singh argued that Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone misled customers by endorsing and promoting the defective vehicle, making them equally liable in the fraud case.
ASI Radha Kishan from Mathura Gate police confirmed that the FIR has been registered and the investigation is currently underway.
As of now, neither Shah Rukh Khan nor Deepika Padukone’s teams have issued an official statement regarding the case. Hyundai Motor India has also not released a comment.
