Senior Advocate TK Ganju is involved in a legal dispute seeking the recovery of Rs. 25 lakh in unpaid fees from a UP discom. Ganju engaged in July 2021 to represent the discom in arbitration proceedings against Reliance Infrastructure Limited, with an agreed fee of Rs. 2.75 lakh per appearance. Despite his services, the discom has allegedly failed to pay the outstanding fees.

Senior Advocate TK Ganju involved in legal proceedings to recover nearly Rs. 25 lakh in unpaid fees from a Uttar Pradesh discom, which he claims is owed for his appearances on behalf of the company.
Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited, a state-run power distribution company, disputed the claim, stating that the fees in question pertain to hearings that were adjourned and did not involve any substantial proceedings.
Ganju appointed in July 2021 to represent the discom in arbitration proceedings against Reliance Infrastructure Limited, with a fee of Rs. 2.75 lakh per appearance. In May, he filed a civil suit at Delhi’s Patiala House Courts after the discom failed to pay fees for certain hearings.
In September 2022, the discom contested several of Ganju’s invoices, arguing that no significant hearings had occurred and only future hearing dates were set due to time constraints.
Ganju dismissed the objections as frivolous, arguing that they are based on a non-existent contractual term. He is seeking payment of the outstanding dues along with 12 percent interest.
The case has been referred to mediation, with four sessions conducted so far.
The disputed invoices date from September 2020 to September 2022.
The suit filed by Advocate Abhishek Bhardwaj on Ganju’s behalf, while Advocate Aviral Saxena represented the discom during the mediation process.
The outcome of the mediation process remains pending as both parties attempt to resolve the matter.
