Actor Amrita Ladak stated that she witnessed an NRI businessman hitting Saif Ali Khan during a hotel altercation. The businessman, however, alleged that Saif and his friends assaulted his father-in-law, Raman Patel. The incident reportedly escalated into a physical fight involving both parties. Authorities are investigating the claims from both sides.
Bollywood actress Amrita Arora Ladak testified on Saturday as a witness in the case involving Saif Ali Khan, who was accused of assaulting an NRI businessman and his father-in-law at a luxury hotel in 2012.
Arora was dining with Khan when the alleged incident occurred on February 22, 2012. She informed the court that the hotel had provided them with a private area for their dinner, where they were enjoying themselves.
During their meal, the complainant approached their enclosure and began yelling and using abusive language, she stated.
“We saw someone barging into our enclosure and, in a very loud, aggressive voice, told us to shut up and keep quiet. We all got shocked at what was happening,”
She recounted, adding that Khan immediately stood up and offered an apology.
After the man left, they resumed their dinner, Arora noted. However, she mentioned that after Khan excused himself to visit the washroom, they heard raised voices, one of which belonged to the Bollywood actor.
Moments later, they witnessed the man barging into their enclosure and striking Khan, Ladak testified.
She added,
“Everyone intervened to separate the two, at which point the man began to hurl abuse at them and threatened them with dire consequences,”
At the time of the altercation, Khan was accompanied by Kareena Kapoor, her sister Karishma, Malaika Arora Khan, Amrita Arora Ladak, and several male friends at the hotel when the confrontation with NRI businessman Iqbal Sharma occurred.
According to police reports, when Sharma objected to the loud conversation among Khan and his friends, Saif allegedly threatened him and then punched Sharma in the nose, causing a fracture.
Sharma also claimed that Saif and his friends assaulted his father-in-law, Raman Patel.
However, Saif has maintained that Sharma made provocative remarks and used abusive language towards the women with him, which sparked the incident.
Saif and his two friends, Shakeel Ladak and Bilal Amrohi, have been charged under Section 325 (assault) of the Indian Penal Code.
