Breaking: Rahul Gandhi Meets PM Modi at PMO to Finalize Next CBI Chief – Major Announcement Expected Soon!

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has reached the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) today.

He is attending an important meeting that is expected to decide the name of the next chief of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), India’s top investigating agency.

According to sources,

“Congress’s Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has reached the Prime Minister’s Office for a meeting that is expected to lead to the selection of the next chief of the Central Bureau of Investigation, sources said.”

This meeting is being held because the current CBI Director, Praveen Sood, is nearing the end of his tenure. His term will officially end on May 25.

“The tenure of the current CBI director Praveen Sood ends on May 25.”

To appoint the new Director of the CBI, a high-level committee is formed. This committee includes three important figures — the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice of India, and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.

This panel decides who will take over as the new CBI chief.

“The committee for picking the CBI chief comprises the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice of India and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha for a fixed tenure of two years. The tenure can be extended up to five years.”

Mr. Praveen Sood is a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the 1986 batch. He belongs to the Karnataka cadre. Before becoming the CBI Director in May 2023, he was serving as the Karnataka State Police Chief. He replaced Subodh Kumar Jaiswal as the head of the CBI.

He has served as an advisor to the Government of Mauritius and has overseen investigations into high-profile cases involving high net-worth individuals, as well as matters with inter-state and international implications.

His experience also includes the investigation and detection of crimes, including those related to cybercrime and information technology.

This meeting at the PMO is very crucial because the post of CBI Director is one of the most powerful and responsible roles in the Indian legal system.

The CBI is responsible for investigating major cases, including corruption, economic crimes, and high-profile criminal matters.

Therefore, the process of choosing its head is done with utmost care and through consultation with top constitutional authorities.
