TARN TARAN: A shocking and tragic incident took place on Monday inside a law college in Tarn Taran, Punjab, where a first-year law student allegedly shot dead his female classmate and then turned the gun on himself. The horrifying incident occurred at Usma Law College and caused panic and fear among students and faculty members present on the campus.

According to the police, the deceased female student has been identified as Sandeep Kaur. The accused has been identified as Prince Raj Singh, who was also a first-semester student at the same college.

Police officials said that Prince Raj Singh allegedly opened fire on Sandeep Kaur inside the college campus, killing her on the spot. After shooting her, he reportedly shot himself in the head.

Both Sandeep Kaur and Prince Raj Singh were studying in the first semester of the law course. The sudden sound of gunshots left students and teachers shocked and confused. Many ran out of classrooms in fear, while others tried to take cover. Soon after the incident, police teams rushed to the college campus to control the situation and begin investigation.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Surendra Lamba confirmed that Sandeep Kaur died on the spot due to gunshot injuries.

He said Prince Raj Singh was found in a critical condition after shooting himself and was immediately rushed to a hospital. At the time of filing this report, the police said that his condition remained extremely serious.

SSP Surendra Lamba said that a detailed investigation has been started to find out the exact reason behind the shocking incident.

He stated,

“CCTV footage from the college is being obtained, statements of students and staff are being recorded, and all angles are being examined.”

There are conflicting reports regarding the condition of the accused. Nachhattar Singh, the sarpanch of Mallian village where Prince Raj Singh lived, claimed that the youth has died. However, the police have maintained that he is still alive and undergoing treatment in critical condition at the hospital.

Police officials also revealed that the accused’s family background is being looked into as part of the investigation. It was informed that Prince Raj Singh’s father is serving in the Indian Army and had left for duty around 15 to 20 days ago after spending his holidays at home. Since then, only the accused and his mother were staying in the house.

The police said that all possible angles, including personal issues, academic pressure, and any prior disputes between the two students, are being examined carefully.

Further action will be taken based on medical reports, forensic evidence, CCTV footage, and witness statements. The incident has raised serious concerns over campus safety and access to firearms, while leaving the local community and student fraternity deeply shaken.
