Former NCPCR chairperson Priyank Kanoongo has been appointed as a member of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) by President Droupadi Murmu. New Delhi: Former NCPCR chairperson Priyank Kanoongo has been appointed as a member of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). The announcement was made through an official notification issued by President Droupadi Murmu, who exercised her authority under Section 4(1) of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993.
The notification specifies that Kanoongo’s appointment will take effect on the date he assumes office.
In a statement to PTI, Kanoongo confirmed the appointment, reflecting on his tenure as the chairperson of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR). He emphasized his dedication to child protection laws and policies, especially in cases of sexual abuse and exploitation of minors. “And now as a member of NHRC, I will try to fulfil the responsibilities expected of me,” he added.
Kanoongo’s leadership at NCPCR was marked by a robust focus on safeguarding children’s rights and ensuring justice in sensitive cases. As he transitions to his new role at NHRC, expectations are high for his continued advocacy for human rights.
