President Droupadi Murmu released the Constitution of India in Santhali language written in the Ol Chiki script, calling it a proud moment for the Santhali community. The move will help Santhali-speaking tribal citizens easily read and understand the Constitution in their own language.

The Santhali language, one of the oldest living languages of India, has received a major constitutional recognition milestone with the availability of the Constitution of India in Santhali language written in the Ol Chiki script.

Santhali was included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution through the 92nd Constitutional Amendment Act, 2003, acknowledging its importance and widespread use among tribal communities.

Santhali is spoken by a large number of tribal people across Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal and Bihar, and plays a vital role in preserving the cultural identity and heritage of these regions. The move to publish the Constitution in Santhali is seen as a significant step towards linguistic inclusion and accessibility.

Speaking on the occasion, the President of India said that it is a matter of pride and happiness for the Santhali community that the Constitution is now available in their own language and script.

She stated that this development will help Santhali-speaking citizens to read, understand and connect with the Constitution in a more meaningful way.

The President also appreciated the efforts of Union Minister of Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal and his team for making the Constitution available in the Ol Chiki script during the centenary year of the Constitution.

She noted that such initiatives strengthen democratic values and ensure that people from all linguistic backgrounds can access constitutional knowledge.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan and Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, highlighting the importance given by the government to linguistic diversity and tribal inclusion in constitutional governance.
