Kolkata Police escorted Sanjay Roy, accused in the R G Kar Medical College rape-murder case, to Sealdah court amidst significant noise to hinder his communication with journalists. His trial, overseen by Judge Anirban Das, is ongoing with nine witnesses testifying. The CBI investigates the case after the murder of a doctor sparked national outrage on August 9.
Kolkata: In a dramatic sequence, Kolkata Police brought Sanjay Roy, the accused in the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder case, to Sealdah court on Monday amidst an unusual display of noise and movement. Officers honked the prison vehicle’s horn and slapped its body, seemingly to prevent Roy’s voice from reaching journalists.
This follows Roy’s claims of innocence and remarks against former Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal during his court appearance on November 11. To mitigate disruptions, the police replaced the vehicle with a smaller one for subsequent transfers. Monday marked the fifth day of Roy’s trial, which is being conducted daily under Additional District and Sessions Judge Anirban Das.
The case, which is under CBI investigation, revolves around the murder of an on-duty doctor at R G Kar Medical College on August 9. Her body was discovered in a seminar room, sparking nationwide outrage and prolonged protests by junior doctors in Kolkata.
So far, nine witnesses have testified as part of the trial, which aims to deliver justice in a case that has gripped the nation’s attention.
