NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the Constitution Day celebrations today (26th Nov), marking the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Indian Constitution.
The event, organized by the Supreme Court of India, will take place at the Auditorium in the Supreme Court’s Administrative Building Complex, with Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and other esteemed judges in attendance.
During the ceremony, Prime Minister Modi will release the annual report of the Indian Judiciary (2023-24) and deliver a speech. Union Minister of State for Law & Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, announced in a press conference that this milestone will be commemorated through a year-long campaign titled ‘Hamara Samvidhan, Hamara Swabhiman.’
The campaign aims to spread awareness of constitutional values across districts and villages, including widespread recitation of the Preamble.
The central government will highlight the significant role of Dr. BR Ambedkar, the contributions of the Constitution Drafting Committee members, and the 15 women who played key roles in drafting the Constitution. Regional events, inaugurated by Chief Justice Chandrachud in March 2024, have already taken place in Bikaner, Prayagraj, and Guwahati, focusing on engaging diverse communities, especially in the Northeast.
Adopted on November 26, 1949, and effective from January 26, 1950, the Indian Constitution remains the cornerstone of India’s democratic and egalitarian framework, upholding justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity core values celebrated annually on Constitution Day.
