According to a notification issued on October 28, Shri Singh will represent the National Investigation Agency (NIA) before both the NIA Special Court in Jammu and the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. His appointment is for a period of three years, or until the completion of the trial, whichever comes first.
The move comes as the NIA nears the end of its extended investigation period. On September 18, a Jammu court had granted the agency an additional 45 days to complete its probe into the case. That window closes this week, and officials are expected to file the chargesheet soon.
Background of the Case
The tragic attack in Pahalgam on April 22 resulted in the deaths of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen, with many others injured, marking one of the most devastating incidents in the region since the 2019 Pulwama attack that claimed the lives of 40 CRPF personnel.
A tragic terrorist attack took place in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025, which claimed the lives of 28 people. The attackers, believed to be linked to The Resistance Front (TRF), a group associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba, targeted a group of tourists.
They separated men from women and children before shooting them at close range. The victims were chosen because they could not recite Islamic verses, and many were killed at restaurants and in wooded areas.
