The Chief Justice of India, Supreme Court judges, and many members of the legal community gathered to pay their respects

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court of India today (7th Aug) held a full court session to remember and celebrate two eminent legal personalities: Senior Advocate Murlidhar C Bhandare and Senior Advocate Vimlesh Kumar Shukla. The Chief Justice of India, Supreme Court judges, and many members of the legal community gathered to pay their respects.

MC Bhandare, who passed away in August 2023 at 72, had a distinguished career lasting over 40 years. He worked on many important cases and made significant contributions to Indian law. Known for his knowledge and dedication, Bhandare was a former Additional Solicitor General of India Former Odisha governor and Senior Advocate and received the Padma Shri for his outstanding legal work.
Bhandare was born on December 10, 1928. He served as a Senior Advocate before the Supreme Court and held the position of President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for two terms.
From 1980 to 1994, he was a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) for three terms. In August 2007, he was appointed Governor of Odisha, a position he held until March 2013.
Vimlesh Kumar Shukla, who also passed away in August 2023 at 68, was recognized for his expertise in constitutional law, commercial litigation, and arbitration. He was known for his strong arguments and scholarly approach in court, and his dedication to mentoring young lawyers and upholding justice.
Before becoming a judge of the Allahabad High Court, Justice Shukla served as Secretary.
Born on June 3, 1955, Justice Shukla completed his BA and LLB from Allahabad University and was admitted to the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh in 1981. He practiced civil and constitutional law at the Allahabad High Court.
He was appointed as a judge of the Allahabad High Court on December 21, 2002, and retired on June 2, 2017.
After retirement, he began practicing law at the Supreme Court and was later designated as a Senior Advocate by the court.
During the session, the Chief Justice and other judges praised Bhandare and Shukla for their major contributions to the legal field and their commitment to justice. The legal community, including senior and junior lawyers, expressed their condolences and shared memories of the impact these advocates had on the legal system.
This full court session was a tribute to the high regard in which Bhandare and Shukla are held. Their legacy will continue to inspire and set high standards for the legal profession.
