The Maharashtra Cyber Cell is investigating Ranveer Allahbadia’s offensive comments on India’s Got Latent, summoning multiple individuals, including Rakhi Sawant, amidst nationwide outrage over online obscenity.

New Delhi: The Maharashtra Cyber Cell has summoned Rakhi Sawant to record her statement on February 27 in connection with the ongoing investigation into Ranveer Allahbadia’s controversial remarks on India’s Got Latent. The controversy has triggered a nationwide debate on online content and obscenity.
The controversy began when Ranveer Allahbadia made an inappropriate remark to a contestant during a segment of India’s Got Latent. The so-called joke sparked massive backlash online, with social media users accusing him of “promoting vulgarity and obscenity online.”
On February 24, popular YouTubers Ashish Chanchlani and Ranveer Allahbadia appeared before the Maharashtra Cyber Cell to provide their statements.
Meanwhile, stand-up comedian Samay Raina requested an extension until March 17, but his plea was denied by the Maharashtra Cyber Cell, said IG Yashasvi Yadav.
The controversy escalated quickly, with multiple complaints and FIRs being lodged against Ranveer, Samay Raina, and others associated with the show. The Maharashtra Cyber Cell announced that 30-40 individuals involved in the first six episodes of India’s Got Latent would be summoned for questioning.
The show also featured Ashish Chanchlani and Apoorva Mukhija, who have also faced criticism from netizens.
Following the public outrage, Ranveer Allahbadia issued an apology, admitting to a “serious lapse in judgment.”
On the other hand, Samay Raina removed all episodes of India’s Got Latent from his YouTube channel in an apparent attempt to control the damage.
With the Cyber Cell actively investigating the case and summoning more individuals, the controversy surrounding India’s Got Latent continues to grow, raising concerns about the regulation of digital content in India.
