A young chartered accountant, Mihir, was found dead at his Ashok Nagar home in Ranchi after an apparent coordinated suicide attempt. His mother and teenage sister remain critical, while police investigate circumstances following his recent return from Kolkata city.

RANCHI: A young chartered accountant is dead, and his mother and teenage sister are in critical condition following what appears to be a coordinated suicide attempt at their home in the Ashok Nagar district of Ranchi.

The deceased, Mihir, recently returned to Ranchi from Kolkata. According to police, he died by suicide after hanging himself at the family residence. By the time neighbors and law enforcement arrived, Mihir had already passed away.

Police reported that Mihir’s mother, Sneha Akhouri, and his 14-year-old sister also attempted suicide by ingesting a toxic substance. Sneha Akhouri is a practicing lawyer at the Jharkhand High Court.

Both were rushed to Guru Nanak Hospital in Ranchi, where doctors have indicated that their condition remains critical.

Initial reports suggest that Mihir had completed his Chartered Accountancy studies in Kolkata, and he had recently secured a job with a corporate firm. The sudden nature of this incident has raised questions, as neighbors reported no prior signs of distress.

Upon receiving the information, police arrived at the scene to begin an investigation. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was also called in to gather evidence from the house. Authorities have interviewed nearby residents as part of the investigation.

Police officials have stated that the exact cause of the incident is still unclear. They noted that more details will come to light once the mother and daughter regain consciousness and are able to provide their statements.

Argora police station in-charge Anil Kumar Tiwari said,

“The body of the deceased man has been sent for post-mortem examination,”

Tiwari said,

“As per information received from the neighbours, the family is not well-off financially, which might have triggered the incident. However, we are investigating the matter to ascertain the exact reasons.”

Tiwari said,

“The incident came to light at around 2.30 pm on Monday, when a neighbour inquired about the family after hearing some noise ,”

The case is currently being examined from all possible angles.
