Today, On 17th September, At CNN News18’s She Shakti event, singer Usha Uthup raised the Kolkata Rape Case during her meeting with Chief Justice of India, Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud. Uthup directly questioned the CJI, asking, “When are you announcing the decision on the Kolkata case?” Her bold inquiry highlighted the ongoing public interest in the case and the demand for swift justice.
New Delhi: Veteran singer Usha Uthup had an engaging encounter with Chief Justice of India, Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud, at CNN News18’s She Shakti conclave. During their conversation, Uthup reportedly posed several direct questions to the CJI, inquiring about his schedule and raising the ongoing Kolkata Rape Case.
Journalist Chandra R. Srikanth from shared the exchange on X, saying, Usha Uthup doesn’t hold back. As soon as she met CJI Chandrachud, she asked,
‘What are you doing at an event? Why aren’t you in court? When are you announcing your decision on the Kolkata case? The world is watching.'”
Srikanth added that the CJI took it in stride, remarking,
“CJI was a real sport.”
The Kolkata Rape Case has shaken the nation. On August 9, a doctor brutally raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the crime.
The 31-year old doctor was raped and murdered at the Kolkata hospital on August 9. Her partially clothed body was found at the hospital’s seminar room the next morning.
The prime suspect, who has been arrested, is Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police, who was stationed at the police outpost at the hospital and had access to all departments.
But the investigation had left too many questions unanswered including the various distorted versions told to the parents one of which was the claim that their daughter has died by suicide.
There were also allegations that the police forced the cremation despite the parents’ unwillingness and one officer had even offered them money to bury the case.
There was the construction near the site of the crime, mob attack on the protesters at RG Kar hospital on the night of August 15 and the transfer of Sandip Ghosh to a top hospital hours after he submitted his resignation.
A three-judge bench, led by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud, has been assigned to investigate the case and ensure justice is served. On Tuesday, the Supreme Court resumed its suo motu hearing of the case.
Additionally, the central agency arrested Abhijit Mondal, the officer in charge of Tala Police Station, on September 14 for his suspected involvement in the assault and murder of the trainee doctor.

Earlier, on September 2, former RG Kar Hospital principal Sandip Ghosh also arrested due to alleged financial irregularities at the hospital.
At the She Shakti event, Usha Uthup wasn’t the only notable personality in attendance. Other stars present included Kirron Kher, Sikander Kher, Bhumi Pednekar, Rasika Dugal, and Shefali Shah.
