Justice K Babu, in his retirement address, praised the Kerala High Court Bar as the institution’s true strength. He highlighted the growing contribution of young advocates, including women, and emphasised the need for continued encouragement and protection of legal talent.

Justice K Babu said that the Kerala High Court’s real strength lies in its exceptionally capable legal bar. In his retirement address, Justice Babu highlighted the vital role of lawyers in the working of courts. He also expressed satisfaction with the performance of the younger generation of advocates and their contribution to the profession.
Justice Babu said,
“The true strength of our High Court lies in its efficient and erudite Bar. It is heartening to see a new generation of promising young lawyers, including many accomplished women, who enrich its vitality. They deserve our continued encouragement support and protection,”
The remarks were delivered during a farewell reference organised at the High Court in his honour.
Justice Babu is scheduled to retire on May 8, and Friday was his final working day before the High Court closes for its summer vacation. The court will reopen on May 18.
At the farewell function, Justice Babu also reflected on the personal and professional experiences that shaped his legal journey. He credited the guidance of his mentors and noted the support he received from members of the bar, the bench, and the High Court registry in enabling him to perform his duties effectively.
The farewell event was attended by Kerala High Court Chief Justice Soumen Sen, Advocate General Gopalakrishna Kurup K, Additional Solicitor General P Sreekumar, and Peeyus A Kottam, President of the Kerala High Court Advocates’ Association (KHCAA), among others.
About Justice K Babu
Born on May 8, 1964, in Kollam, Justice Babu completed a post-graduate degree in Economics from the University of Kerala. He then earned a law degree from Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram, and later completed an LLM from Mahatma Gandhi University. He enrolled as an advocate in 1994 and began his practice in Kottarakara and Kollam.
In 2009, he entered the Kerala Higher Judicial Service as a District and Sessions Judge. He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Kerala High Court on February 25, 2021, and later elevated as a Permanent Judge with effect from June 6, 2022.
