Shillong: Sonam Raghuvanshi, who is in police custody for killing her husband Raja, was taken on Monday to the Meghalaya Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (MIMHANS) for her mental health checkup.
According to police sources, after doing her psychiatric examination, doctors found that she is mentally fit and not suffering from any mental illness.
Sonam and Raja, a couple from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, had gone to Sohra in Meghalaya for their honeymoon last month. But during the trip, Raja was killed, and now Sonam is accused of being involved in his murder, along with four other people.
All five accused are not from Meghalaya and are still in police custody, as the investigation is going on.
According to police officials, on Tuesday, the Meghalaya police plan to take all five accused, including Sonam, to Sohra again to recreate the crime scene, which may help in the investigation.
Earlier, a local court had given 8-day police remand till June 11 so that police could question them more deeply.
Now, police are expected to ask the court for more time to keep them in custody to continue their investigation properly.
Meanwhile, in Indore, which is more than 2,200 kilometers away from Shillong, the ‘tehrvi’ ritual (13th-day death ceremony) for Raja was held on Monday. Only close family members and relatives were present at his house for the ritual.
Raja’s brother Govind shared that he has been called by Shillong police for questioning.
He said,
“Shillong police have called me for questioning. They said I need to give a statement and sign it.”
Raja’s other brother, Sachin, spoke about how the family performed the tehrvi in a different way. He said that they made all of Raja’s favourite food items for the ritual like gulab jamun, Manchurian, noodles, dal-chawal, dry fruits, bananas, and papaya.
He added,
“We are not organising it like a typical tehrvi for a natural death; only family members are participating.”
The Raghuvanshi family is still very shocked and heartbroken, and they are struggling to understand why this happened.

Sachin expressed his confusion and pain by saying,
“The same question keeps coming to our minds: why did Sonam got her husband murdered just days after their wedding?”
He also said the family is wondering whether more people were involved apart from the five accused.
For clarity and truth, the family has demanded a narco analysis test on all five people who are currently under arrest.
