Gurugram Air Hostess Alleges Sexual Assault While in ICU; Hospital Responds, Police Investigation Underway

New Delhi, April 16, 2025 – A 24-year-old trainee air hostess has alleged that she was sexually assaulted while in a semi-conscious state in the ICU of Gurugram’s Medanta Hospital. The incident reportedly occurred on April 6, 2025, a day after she was transferred to the hospital for emergency treatment following a near-drowning incident during her training.

In her complaint, filed on April 14, 2025, the woman claimed that she was unable to resist the attacker’s advances due to her weakened condition, as she was on a ventilator at the time. The woman also stated that two nurses were present in the ICU during the alleged assault but did not intervene. She further detailed that she was semi-conscious, which hindered her ability to respond adequately to the situation.

The hospital issued a public statement on April 15, acknowledging the allegation and expressing its full cooperation with the authorities. The statement emphasized that while the allegation had been made, no allegations had been substantiated as of the latest reports.

The hospital also confirmed that it had provided both the woman’s medical files and relevant CCTV footage to the police for further investigation.

MEDANTA HOSPITAL

The complainant had initially been admitted to a smaller hospital after the near-drowning incident but was later transferred to Medanta for advanced medical care. During her week-long stay, she received critical treatment, including being placed on a ventilator.

The alleged assault is said to have occurred on the night of April 6. The woman was discharged on April 13, after which she filed her complaint the following day.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Sandeep of the Gurugram Police confirmed that a formal complaint had been registered at the Sadarpur Police Station and an investigation had been initiated. He informed the media that the victim had specifically mentioned being unconscious during the incident and had cited the presence of two nurses who were conversing with each other at the time. The police are currently reviewing the CCTV footage from the hospital as part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities are now working to gather more evidence, including medical records, to substantiate the woman’s claims and determine whether any wrongdoing occurred during her time in the ICU. The case has sparked concern over hospital safety protocols and staff conduct, especially in sensitive situations where patients are vulnerable due to their medical conditions.

The outcome of the police investigation is eagerly awaited, with the hospital reiterating its commitment to a transparent process in accordance with legal guidelines.
