Former Councillor Hakim Qureshi Attacked by Lawyers in Ajmer Court Amid Bijainagar Blackmail Case

Jaipur: Former councillor Hakim Qureshi, accused in the Bijainagar blackmail case, was allegedly assaulted by a group of lawyers on Monday when he was produced before a special POCSO court in Ajmer.

Qureshi, who has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, was presented before Magistrate Rajiv Badlani, who sent him to judicial custody until March 11.

As soon as Qureshi stepped out of the courtroom, several lawyers attacked him, slapping, kicking, and punching him. Some lawyers climbed tables and chairs to rain blows on him, while police officers struggled to control the chaos. In the scuffle, some policemen stumbled and fell before finally managing to escort Qureshi to safety.

Qureshi was initially placed in five-day police custody on February 27 following his arrest in a case related to alleged sexual exploitation of girls and forced religious conversion, a senior police official stated. On Monday, he was produced before the court after the expiry of his remand period.

The case surfaced around 10 days ago when Rs 2,000 went missing from a minor girl’s father’s wallet, and a mobile phone was recovered from her. This seemingly minor incident unfolded into a major case, leading to market shutdowns, rallies, and growing communal tensions in Bijainagar town of Beawar district and nearby areas.

The incident has sparked outrage and heightened tensions between Hindu and Muslim communities, with protests continuing in the region. Authorities are now closely monitoring the situation to prevent further escalation.
