The new BJP-led government in Delhi has started withdrawing multiple court cases, marking a step towards resolving legal disputes with the Lieutenant Governor, who represents the Centre, sources said on Wednesday.

The new BJP-led government in Delhi has started withdrawing multiple court cases involving disputes with the Lieutenant Governor (LG), who represents the Centre. According to sources, this move is seen as an effort to end the long-standing legal battles between the Delhi government and the LG’s office.
Several of the cases being withdrawn relate to key governance issues, including:
- The appointment of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) chairman.
- Funding arrangements for the Delhi Jal Board.
- Appointment of lawyers in cases related to the Delhi riots.
- Teacher training programs conducted abroad.
- The formation and operations of the high-level committee on Yamuna pollution.
Background
When the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was in power, the Delhi government often clashed with the LGs over various administrative issues. The disagreements frequently led to legal battles. The former LGs, Najeeb Jung, Anil Baijal, and VK Saxena, were involved in these disputes with the AAP government.

“The Lieutenant Governor is deliberately obstructing our policies. It is affecting public welfare,” the AAP government had stated in the past.
The AAP government, led by Arvind Kejriwal and later by Aatishi, had accused the LG’s office of intentionally blocking the implementation of its policies. They argued that the LG was interfering with governance, affecting the execution of welfare schemes and developmental projects.
“The AAP government is not cooperating with the LG office, which is creating governance challenges,”
the LG office had responded.
On the other hand, the LGs countered these allegations. They claimed that the Delhi government was not cooperating and that their actions were in line with constitutional responsibilities.
