CJI BR Gavai urges Indian students in UK to return home after studies and contribute to nation-building. Says, “Bharat needs you… make it one of the most important powers in the globe.”

Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai has made a heartfelt appeal to Indian students studying in prestigious British universities like Oxford and Cambridge, urging them to return to India after completing their education and contribute to building a stronger and more powerful nation.
While speaking to Indian students at Oxford’s Trinity College, CJI Gavai said,
“The only appeal to you is that after you complete your studies, you do not remain here. Come back to India. Give your services to make our Bharat strong and one of the most important powers in the entire globe. So, Bharat needs you, respond to that need.”
His message was simple yet powerful—India needs its bright young minds to come back and play a key role in nation-building.

He encouraged the students to see themselves as the future of the country and to take pride in their roots.
“Oxford and Cambridge have many alumni who contributed to the development of the country…I was really happy to meet the students studying a variety of subjects,”
said CJI Gavai, as he shared his thoughts on the valuable experience of meeting talented Indian students abroad.
He further appreciated the diverse academic interests of the students and was particularly impressed by a student’s work on ancient Indian texts.
“A young man presented the book and research on equality as found in the ancient texts, in the religious bodies. I was amazed to know that there existed such a concept also.”
Encouraging the youth to acknowledge their role in shaping India’s future, he added,
“All I can say is that you all the future of the country and the country needs you too.”
CJI Gavai’s visit to Oxford and earlier to Cambridge University highlighted the significance of India’s global academic footprint.

His message focused on national pride, service to the homeland, and the importance of returning to one’s country to contribute meaningfully to its progress.
This statement from the country’s top judge comes at a time when the Indian government is actively promoting its “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) vision and encouraging diaspora engagement in the nation’s development.
The Chief Justice’s words serve as a reminder of the responsibility young Indians hold, especially those receiving world-class education, to be active participants in shaping India’s future.
The appeal is seen as both emotional and motivational, calling on the new generation of Indian scholars to choose nation over personal gain abroad.
By quoting Indian traditions and expressing surprise at the concept of equality in ancient religious texts, CJI Gavai also underlined the richness of Indian heritage and the need for academic research to connect with India’s roots.
