On Tuesday, Justice Tejas Karia indicated that the court would pass injunction orders to prevent online platforms and individuals from morphing Bachchan’s images or using her persona without permission. The court remarked,
“We will pass order against each of the defendant, the prayers are wide. If we can pass common order, we will pass injunction separately.”
This decision comes after Bachchan filed a suit seeking protection against the misuse of her likeness, highlighting the growing concern of digital identity violations.
Senior Advocate Sandeep Sethi, representing Bachchan, highlighted the severity of the misuse:
- Her image and persona are being used without authorization to sell merchandise.
- Some morphed images are being circulated for pornographic purposes, including AI-generated intimate photos that are entirely fake.
- A firm called Aishwarya Nation Wealth allegedly used Bachchan’s photo on its letterhead and claimed her as the chairperson, despite her having no prior knowledge or association.
Sethi emphasized:
“It is shocking. Her morphed pictures are being used. Her image, her persona, her likeness is being used to satisfy someone’s sexual desire. He [defendant] is collecting money by putting my face and name.”
