Chief Justice of India Surya Kant inaugurated a modern district court complex and LLSA building in Leh to strengthen judicial infrastructure. The new facilities aim to improve access to justice and efficiency in Ladakh’s legal system.

Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant on Saturday inaugurated the newly built District Court Complex at Melong Thang in Leh, marking an important step towards improving judicial infrastructure in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena and Justice Arun Palli, Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. Justice Sindhu Sharma, who is the Administrative Judge for Leh district, along with other High Court judges, was also present at the event.
As part of the official ceremony, the Chief Justice of India was welcomed with a ceremonial Guard of Honour. The event also included a traditional cultural welcome showcasing the rich heritage and culture of Ladakh.
During the programme, a commemorative plaque was unveiled to mark the inauguration, and the inscription on the plaque was formally read out. Officials also presented a detailed 3D presentation that showed the architectural design, facilities, and overall layout of the new court complex. The presentation included information about courtrooms, administrative offices, and residential quarters built within the complex.
After the presentation, the Chief Justice inspected the newly constructed court facilities, including the courtroom of the Principal District and Sessions Judge. The complex has been built with modern infrastructure and improved facilities to strengthen the justice delivery system in the region and to make court services more accessible and efficient for the people of Ladakh.
On the same occasion, the Chief Justice also inaugurated the newly constructed building of the Ladakh Legal Services Authority (LLSA) at the same location. A plantation drive was also organised within the LLSA premises, and all dignitaries participated in the plantation activity, highlighting the importance of environmental responsibility along with institutional development.

While interacting with the media, the Chief Justice expressed happiness and satisfaction with the new infrastructure and said it would greatly help the people of Leh by improving access to courts and legal services.
He stated that the new infrastructure would benefit the people for many years and would play a major role in strengthening the justice system in the region. He also announced that a similar District Court Complex in Kargil would be inaugurated during his visit.
According to officials, the Leh District Court Complex has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 54.85 crore, while the Ladakh Legal Services Authority building has been built at a cost of Rs 5.70 crore. The Chief Justice also inspected the modern High Court Guest House at Melong Thang during his visit.
The newly inaugurated court complex is considered a major development for Ladakh’s judicial system. The new infrastructure is expected to improve accessibility to courts, increase efficiency in court functioning, and strengthen the overall justice delivery system in the Union Territory.
Officials stated that this development will help in providing better judicial services to the people of Ladakh and will contribute significantly to the strengthening of the legal and judicial framework in the region for the future.
