A two-day national conference of Chief Justices of High Courts began on Saturday at the National Judicial Academy in Bhopal, with the aim of building a unified, efficient and people-centric judicial system in India. The conference was inaugurated by the Chief Justice of India, Justice Surya Kant, and is being held on February 7 and 8.

Chief Justices from High Courts across the country are attending the conference and taking part in detailed discussions on improving the functioning of the judicial system. Senior judges of the Supreme Court are also guiding the deliberations along with the Chief Justice of India.

The conference is focused on finding long-term solutions to modern challenges faced by courts and judicial administration.

According to officials, one of the main subjects of discussion is the proposed National Judicial Policy, which aims to transform judicial administration across India. The policy focuses on strategic and data-driven governance to ensure better planning, monitoring and decision-making within the judiciary.

The discussions also include ways to streamline court procedures so that cases can be handled more efficiently and delays can be reduced.

Another important agenda of the conference is the effective use of technology in courts. The participants are discussing how digital tools can be used to improve court processes, strengthen alternative dispute resolution mechanisms such as mediation and arbitration, and make justice more accessible to citizens. Emphasis is being placed on using technology to make the justice delivery system faster, simpler and more transparent.

Officials said that a key focus of the conference is removing linguistic and geographical barriers that often prevent people from accessing justice easily. Through digital innovation, the judiciary aims to create a more equitable and citizen-friendly system, especially for people living in remote and rural areas.

The discussions are also centred on building a uniform and modern judicial framework that can serve citizens across the country in a consistent and effective manner.

The two-day conference seeks to build consensus among Chief Justices on reforms that can help develop a judicial system that is accessible, efficient and responsive to the needs of the public. The aim is to ensure that justice delivery keeps pace with social and technological changes while remaining focused on the common citizen.

Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant arrived in Bhopal on Friday evening to attend the inaugural session of the conference. Officials noted that this is his first visit to Bhopal after assuming office as the Chief Justice of India.
