Chief Justice of India Bhushan R Gavai commended the Maharashtra government for developing modern court buildings and improving judicial infrastructure. He spoke while inaugurating a memorial for his father, former Governor R S Gavai, in Amravati.
Chief Justice of India Bhushan R. Gavai on Thursday appreciated the Maharashtra government for its strong efforts in improving judicial infrastructure across the state.
Speaking at an event in Amravati district, the CJI said that several new and well-built court complexes have come up in recent years, showing the state’s commitment to supporting the judiciary.
The Chief Justice was in Amravati to inaugurate a memorial dedicated to his late father, former Maharashtra Governor R. S. Gavai. The event was also attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde, along with other dignitaries.

Calling it a proud and emotional moment, CJI Gavai said,
“It is a happy moment, as very few individuals get the opportunity to be the chief guest at the inauguration of their father’s memorial.”
He thanked everyone involved in creating the memorial, saying,
“He thanked people for their contribution towards the memorial to his father.”
During his speech, Justice Gavai took the opportunity to praise the Maharashtra government, particularly the Public Works Department (PWD), for the quality of the new court buildings constructed across the state.
“Gavai also praised the Maharashtra government, particularly the Public Works Department, for developing court buildings in the state and appreciated their quality.”
He shared examples of several high court and district court buildings that he personally inaugurated, describing them as examples of good infrastructure.
“He cited the examples of many high court and district court buildings that he inaugurated across Maharashtra.”
However, the Chief Justice also mentioned that there are still some who believe judicial infrastructure in the state is neglected.
“However, some people complain that the judiciary infrastructure in Maharashtra is ignored and no good projects are taken up,”
he said, acknowledging the differing views.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who was also present at the event, fondly remembered R. S. Gavai’s contribution to public life.
He said,
“Former governor R. S. Gavai was respected and loved by all in the country.”
Sharing his personal memories with the CJI’s father, Fadnavis added,
“Recalling his memories with the CJI’s father, the CM called him ‘Ajatashatru’, one who has no enemies.”
The Chief Minister further noted that R. S. Gavai worked tirelessly for the welfare of society and left a positive impact wherever he served.
Said Fadnavis,
“While holding various posts, R. S. Gavai brought positive changes in the lives of thousands of people,”
Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde also joined in praising the late governor’s life and legacy. They highlighted his long service to the people and his role in uplifting marginalized communities.
“Deputy CMs Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde also praised late R. S. Gavai for his valuable contribution to society.”
The event in Amravati was marked by heartfelt speeches and tributes, reflecting both the personal and public respect that R. S. Gavai commanded during his lifetime.
Justice Gavai’s acknowledgment of the state’s role in improving judicial infrastructure also highlighted the ongoing collaboration between the judiciary and the government in strengthening the justice delivery system in Maharashtra.
