The Central Government approves the appointment of six Bombay High Court judges as permanent after Supreme Court Collegium approval, strengthening judicial strength and ensuring smoother justice delivery in one of India’s busiest courts.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!MUMBAI: The Central government on Wednesday notified the appointment of six additional judges of the Bombay High Court as permanent judges. The move comes following the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium, made on August 25.
The following judges have now been confirmed as permanent:
- Justice Sanjay Anandrao Deshmukh
- Justice Vrushali Vijay Joshi
- Justice Abhay Jainarayanji Mantri
- Justice Shyam Chhaganlal Chandak
- Justice Neeraj Pradeep Dhote
- Justice Somasekhar Sundaresan
Justices Sanjay Anandrao Deshmukh and Vrushali Vijay Joshi were initially appointed as additional judges in October 2022, based on the Supreme Court Collegium’s recommendation from September 2022.
Further appointments were made in October 2023, when Justices Abhay Jainarayanji Mantri, Shyam Chhaganlal Chandak, and Neeraj Pradeep Dhote were brought in as additional judges.
Justice Somasekhar Sundaresan’s elevation has been of particular note. He was appointed as an additional judge of the Bombay High Court in November 2023, after a prolonged delay of ten months despite the Collegium’s repeated recommendation for his appointment.
