Today, On 13th September, The BJP demanded Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation following the Supreme Court’s comments on the legality of his arrest. BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia stated that the Court had “shown Kejriwal the mirror,” arguing that the AAP leader no longer holds the moral authority to occupy a constitutional position.

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday called for Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation, pointing to the Supreme Court’s observation that his arrest was lawful, even though the Delhi chief minister granted bail.

BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said,

“The court has shown Kejriwal the mirror and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader no longer has the moral authority to hold a constitutional position, given the serious allegations against him.”

Bhatia also reminded Kejriwal of his previous stance, where he demanded immediate resignations from politicians facing accusations.

Bhatia asked, referring to the bail conditions, which he said highlight the seriousness of the charges,

“Why did he call for others to step down, yet he remains in office six months later?”

Bhatia remarked,

“Kejriwal insists his arrest was unlawful, but today the Supreme Court has put an end to that false narrative,”

He further added that while Kejriwal has the right to challenge the charges, they have not been dismissed.

Bhatia questioned, noting that Kejriwal’s bail does not exonerate him from corruption allegations,

“There’s been no discharge, no chance of acquittal, what does that tell us?”

BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia reaffirmed the party’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption, stressing that individuals in constitutional positions should not be burdened with serious allegations. He argued that Arvind Kejriwal’s continued tenure as chief minister erodes public trust.

Bhatia asked, asserting that the city deserves leadership free from corruption accusations and legal issues,

“Is this the kind of chief minister that Delhi deserves?”

Bhatia criticized Kejriwal’s refusal to resign, stating it reflects a “lack of morality” and a failure to prioritize the people of Delhi over personal interests. He pointed out that the Supreme Court’s ruling serves as a reminder that public officials must uphold higher ethical standards, especially when their integrity is called into question. Bhatia urged Kejriwal to step down to preserve the dignity of his office.

The Supreme Court, while granting bail to Arvind Kejriwal, reiterated that “bail is the rule, and jail an exception.” It emphasized that courts must ensure the prosecution and trial process do not become a form of punishment. The court questioned the timing and manner of Kejriwal’s arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), suggesting the arrest may have been aimed at obstructing his bail in the Enforcement Directorate case.

The court also stressed that the CBI must work to shed the image of being a “caged parrot” and maintain its integrity.

Reacting to the Supreme Court’s remarks, AAP minister Saurabh Bharadwaj criticized the Union government, accusing the CBI of acting with “a sense of vengeance.”
