The Bar Council of India (BCI) issued a strong warning against the spread of fake news regarding a lawyers’ strike on February 12, 2025. The BCI clarified that no such strike has been called and that false information is being circulated to mislead lawyers and tarnish the reputation of its Chairman, Manan Kumar Mishra. It has announced plans to file an FIR against those responsible and urged lawyers not to believe or share such misleading posts on social media.

BCI (Bar Council of India) Warns Against Fake Strike News By Lawyers, Vows Legal Action

NEW DELHI: The Bar Council of India (BCI) strongly condemned the spread of fake news regarding a lawyers’ strike and announced that it will file an FIR against those responsible for circulating such misleading information on social media. According to the BCI, this false news was shared with the intention of misleading lawyers, harming litigants, and tarnishing the reputation of the institution.

“Any lawyer found to have circulated such fake news shall be proceeded for misconduct,”

-stated the BCI.

The organization has urged all advocates not to believe or share such fake news regarding any strike or boycott on social media.

The BCI clarified that some dishonest individuals have spread fake news by presenting it as if it was published in a so-called Hindi newspaper. However, the BCI has confirmed that this news is completely false and fabricated. The statement added that this false information is being circulated solely to mislead lawyers across the country and to damage the image of Manan Kumar Mishra, the Chairman of the Bar Council of India.

“It is made clear that no such call for demonstration/strike has been given by the Bar Council of India for February 12, 2025, or any other day/date,”

-confirmed the BCI.

The organization also mentioned that important demands such as medical insurance for lawyers and their protection are already being considered by a committee set up by the Ministry of Law and Justice. Therefore, there is no need for any protest or agitation regarding these matters.

“The only sinister motive behind such fake news of strike is to cause damage to the Institution of Legal fraternity,”

-the BCI clarified.

The BCI further emphasized that there should not be any strike, boycott, or abstinence from legal work on February 12, 2025, or any other day based on such false social media posts. It also reaffirmed that neither the Chairman nor the Bar Council of India has issued any press statement calling for a strike.

To ensure that lawyers across the country are not misled by this fake news, the BCI has sent this clarification to all State Bar Councils and Bar Associations. The aim is to ensure that every lawyer attends court on February 12, 2025, without any confusion or influence from these misleading messages circulating on social media.
