New Delhi: The Bar Council of India (BCI) will hold elections for the posts of chairman and vice-chairman on March 2, BCI Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra announced.

According to Mishra, the last date for filing nominations is February 28, while candidates can withdraw their nominations until March 1. The elections will determine the new leadership of the BCI, which plays a crucial role in regulating the legal profession in India.

The chairman and vice-chairman are elected for a two-year term from among the council members. These positions hold significant responsibility in shaping policies and upholding professional standards in the legal field.

Senior advocate Manan Kumar Mishra, also a Rajya Sabha MP, has been elected unopposed as BCI chairman for the last six terms. His leadership has been instrumental in various legal reforms and initiatives.

Senior advocate S Prabakaran has been serving as the BCI vice-chairman for the last three years. His contributions have been crucial in maintaining the integrity of the legal profession.
