Bar Association Kargil, Ladakh, expresses deep respect for martyrs who died on 24 September 2025 fighting for people’s rights. As a mark of respect and protest, it has suspended all judicial work till 6 October 2025.

The Bar Association Kargil, Union Territory of Ladakh, issued a solidarity message expressing deep respect for the martyrs who lost their lives on 24 September 2025 while striving for the rights of the people of Ladakh.
In its official notice dated 1 October 2025, the association declared,
“As a mark of respect and protest, the Bar Association Kargil has unanimously decided to refrain from all judicial work from 1st October to 6th October, 2025.”
The association also announced that it would provide free legal assistance to any victim of the unfortunate incident that took place in Leh.
At the same time, the Bar Association Kargil strongly urged the UT Administration to take immediate steps to ensure justice.
The notice stated that there must be a “free, fair, and impartial judicial inquiry into the matter so that justice is served and accountability is upheld.”
The decision has been formally communicated to the Principal District Judge Kargil, the Chief Judicial Magistrate Kargil, the Judicial Magistrates at Sankoo and Drass, the Senior Prosecuting Officer Kargil, and also displayed on the notice board for wider information.
This suspension of judicial work by lawyers in Kargil is a symbolic protest to stand with the people of Ladakh and to demand justice through a transparent inquiry into the incident.
Earlier, On 24 September 2025, Leh, the capital of Ladakh, witnessed a massive protest demanding statehood and constitutional safeguards for the region. While the demonstration initially remained peaceful, it soon turned violent as sections of the crowd reportedly hurled stones, damaged property, and set fire to the BJP office in Leh as well as a police vehicle.
In response, security forces resorted to tear gas, baton charge, and even firing, though the exact sequence of events remains disputed.

The clashes led to the death of at least four people, with many others including both civilians and security personnel suffering injuries. Among those who lost their lives was Tsewang Tharchin, a former soldier from Skurbuchan, Ladakh.
Following the unrest, authorities imposed a strict curfew, suspended internet services across the region, and detained several individuals to restore control.
