Shehzeen Siddique, widow of ex-minister Baba Siddique, has approached the Bombay High Court demanding an SIT probe, alleging police failed to nab the real culprits behind his October 2024 murder. She suspects involvement of builders and a political leader in the killing.
Mumbai: On November 7, The widow of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, who was shot dead in October last year, has approached the Bombay High Court seeking the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct an independent probe into her husband’s murder.
She has alleged that the Mumbai Police has failed to identify and arrest the real culprits behind the killing.
Baba Siddique, aged 66, was shot dead on October 12, 2024, outside his son Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Bandra (East) by three unidentified assailants. The incident had sent shockwaves across Mumbai’s political circles.

The petition was filed by Shehzeen Siddique, the late leader’s widow, through advocate Trivankumar Karnani.
She alleged that the ongoing police investigation has been biased and incomplete. According to her, the police have
“intentionally avoided to arrest the real culprits in the case”
and have instead claimed that the killing was
“ordered by Anmol Bishnoi, brother of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.”
The petition is expected to come up for hearing in the Bombay High Court next week.
In her plea, Shehzeen Siddique expressed
“a strong suspicion about the involvement of the builder lobby and a political leader behind her husband’s death.”
She alleged that the police never examined this crucial angle.
She further stated that
“Siddique (Baba) always had the interest of slumdwellers and hence he was considered as a hurdle by several developers and builders in the area. This angle was never probed by the police.”
The petition also pointed out that the
“suspected offenders have connections to the present ruling state government and, hence, the probe ought to be carried out by an independent investigating agency.”
According to the plea, in July 2024, Baba Siddique had received a threatening message from one Prithvijeet Chavan, after which he had sought restoration of his security cover.
It further mentioned that Zeeshan Siddique, who was then a sitting MLA, had written a letter to former Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, requesting Y+ category security for his father.
The petition added that
“One Ashok Mundra, associate of Mohit Kamboj, had in August used derogatory language against Baba Siddique.”
The Mumbai Police had filed a chargesheet in January 2025, naming several accused in the case. Later, in April 2025, the investigating officers filed an application seeking permission for further investigation, but the same was withdrawn without any clear explanation.
In June 2025, Siddique’s family sought updates from the state government regarding steps taken to secure the presence of Anmol Bishnoi, who has been named as a wanted accused.
However, their Right to Information (RTI) request was rejected, and in August 2025, they were informed that “an extradition request has been sent by the Ministry of External Affairs to US authorities.”
As per the police chargesheet, Anmol Bishnoi, brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, has been shown as the mastermind of the conspiracy.

The prosecution claims that
“Anmol Bishnoi hatched a conspiracy to kill Siddique to instil fear and dominance over the crime syndicate.”
So far, 26 people have been arrested in connection with the case. All of them have been booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and are currently in judicial custody.
The petition by Shehzeen Siddique now seeks the intervention of the Bombay High Court to ensure an impartial and transparent investigation into the high-profile murder case, alleging that political influence and vested interests have compromised justice.
