Arbitration Bar of India and Bombay Bar Association to Host an Event on “Judicial Support and Role of Courts in Arbitration” On Sept 21

The event will be held at the YB Chavan Auditorium in Mumbai from 9 AM to 2 PM, followed by lunch.

Mumbai: The Arbitration Bar of India, in collaboration with the Bombay Bar Association, is hosting its inaugural conference on “Judicial Support and Role of Courts in Arbitration” on September 21, 2024.

The event will be held at the YB Chavan Auditorium in Mumbai from 9 AM to 2 PM, followed by lunch.

The opening session will feature remarks from key figures including Vyapak Desai, Vice President of the Arbitration Bar India; Nitin Thakker, Senior Advocate and President of the Bombay Bar Association; Gourab Banerji, Senior Advocate and President of the Arbitration Bar India; Birendra Saraf, Senior Advocate and Advocate General of Maharashtra; Tushar Mehta, Solicitor General of India; R Venkataramani, Senior Advocate and Attorney General for India; and Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay of the Bombay High Court. Advocate Farhan Dubash will provide the closing remarks for this session.

Following the opening, a session on “Effective Strategies for Arbitration Advocacy” will be introduced by Justice AS Chandurkar of the Bombay High Court. This session will include a panel discussion moderated by Raj Panchmatia, Executive Committee Member of ABI, featuring:

• Justice Bharati Dangre, Judge of the Bombay High Court
• Justice RD Dhanuka, Former Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court
• Darius Khambata, Senior Advocate and Advisory Board Member of the Arbitration Bar India
• Venkatesh Dhond, Senior Advocate and Vice President of the Bombay Bar Association

The second panel discussion, focused on “The Role of the Arbitration Bar in Modern Arbitration,” will be initiated with an address by Justice GS Kulkarni of the Bombay High Court. This discussion will be moderated by Naresh Thacker, Joint Secretary of the Western Region of ABI, and will include:

• Janak Dwarkadas, Senior Advocate
• Ketan Parikh, Senior Advocate
• Madhavi Diwan, Senior Advocate and Vice President of the Arbitration Bar India

Tejas Karia, Partner at SAM and Co., and Vice President of the Arbitration Bar India, will deliver the closing remarks for this session.
