In a meeting held today by the Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF), the legal community came together to express deep sorrow and anger over the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting was attended by many members of SILF along with distinguished guests from across the country.
While addressing the gathering, Attorney General of India, Shri R. Venkataramani, said, “Terrorism can never be justified by any faith, belief, or cause.” Expressing his deep pain over the incident, he strongly condemned the attack and underlined that no cause or belief system can ever excuse acts of terror.
Venkataramani was speaking at an online meeting organised by the Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF). The meeting was held to strongly condemn the brutal terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam.
Talking about the importance of peace, he said, “As we all vow for a peaceful world, no person engaging in an act of terror can ever justify their actions based on faith or religion. It is important that humanity unconditionally declares that no such justification will ever be tolerated, and that terrorism must be eliminated forever so people can live in peace, friendship, love, and compassion.”
He emphasised that the entire world must work together to remove terrorism.
“The whole world must unite to achieve this. People from all over must join together. Lawyers are custodians of peace within and outside nations. SILF can take the lead in forming a ‘Lawyers for Peace’ initiative globally, a much-needed movement,” the Attorney General added.
Speaking with deep sorrow for the victims, Venkataramani said it was difficult to find words to truly console the families.
“Loss of life, especially of young people, is irreparable. SILF could send personal messages of sincere compassion to the families of victims, a small but meaningful gesture,” he said.
During the meeting, SILF members passed a resolution. They expressed complete support for the actions taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure that the terrorists are brought to justice.
The legal community stood united, sending a strong message against terrorism and promising to work for peace and compassion across the globe.
To honour the innocent lives lost in the attack, the attendees observed two minutes of silence. A resolution was also passed condemning the brutal and inhuman killings.
The members of SILF showed full support for the strong and decisive measures announced by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to bring the guilty to justice.
Attorney General Shri Venkataramani further said, “Humanity must stand united in rejecting and eliminating all forms of violence so that compassion, friendship, and love can flourish unconditionally. Terror must have no place on planet Earth if we truly want it to remain a peaceful home for future generations. Every voice that joins this call strengthens the global resolve to eliminate terror and uphold peace across the world.”
In an emotional gesture, SILF pledged heartfelt condolences and ongoing support to the families of the victims who lost their lives in this senseless act of violence.
Shri Lalit Bhasin, President of SILF, also spoke during the meeting.
He said, “This atrocious act of terrorism has shocked the conscience of our nation and the world. Terrorism has no face or religion, and it must be condemned in the strongest terms. In these difficult times, our greatest strength lies in our solidarity and unity as a country.”
To express their solidarity even more strongly, SILF passed a resolution announcing the organisation of a Special Meeting in Pahalgam at a later date. This meeting will act as a tribute to the victims and will reaffirm the legal community’s stand against terrorism.
Emphasising the critical role that lawyers can play in promoting peace, the Attorney General added, “Lawyers are the custodians of peace within and beyond national borders. It is now more important than ever for the legal fraternity to unite globally under a ‘Lawyers for Peace’ initiative — to uphold justice, safeguard human dignity, and ensure that hatred and terror find no sanctuary anywhere in the world.”
