Vizianagaram: Former Chief Justice of India (CJI) N.V. Ramana on Saturday emphasized the critical need for affordable cancer treatment in India, expressing deep concern over the growing prevalence of the disease across the country.
Justice Ramana visited the construction site of the first cancer hospital under Sri Gurudeva Charitable Trust at Mangalamapalem in Kothavalasa mandal, Vizianagaram district. The hospital, a 100-bed facility being built in collaboration with the Vijayasri Uppalapati Foundation, aims to provide affordable care for cancer patients in the region.
Commending the Trust’s initiative, Justice Ramana stated, “The hospital with a service motto would ensure a new lease of life to those suffering from the chronic disease.” He acknowledged the critical role the facility would play in addressing the health challenges faced by underserved communities.
Raparthi Jagadish Babu, founder of the Trust, highlighted ongoing efforts to survey cancer patients across North Andhra. The aim is to deliver pre-medical services that could significantly improve patient outcomes even before the hospital’s formal inauguration, scheduled for the last week of December 2024.
In addition to inspecting the hospital, Justice Ramana visited the Trust’s artificial limb manufacturing unit, which provides prosthetics for physically challenged individuals. During his visit, he distributed artificial limbs to beneficiaries, further emphasizing the Trust’s commitment to community welfare.
This initiative underscores the urgent need for accessible healthcare solutions, particularly in rural areas, where specialized treatments often remain out of reach for many. Justice Ramana’s support for such endeavors highlights the importance of collective action in combating life-threatening diseases and improving the quality of life for marginalized populations.
