Special Judge Kaveri Baweja passed the order after Naresh Balyan was produced before the court following the expiry of his seven-day police custody, which had been granted earlier in connection with the case lodged under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
The Delhi Police, represented by Special Public Prosecutor Akhand Pratap Singh, argued for an extension of Balyan’s custody, citing the need to “unearth the larger conspiracy” behind the organized crime allegations. However, the judge dismissed the application, opting to send the MLA to judicial custody instead.
