Madhya Pradesh High Court Senior Advocate Aditya Sanghi called the Bar a “Goons’ Bar.” Following this, Bar Council President Dhanyakumar Jain filed a serious complaint, demanding the revocation of Sanghi’s senior designation.

A serious complaint has been lodged against Senior Advocate Aditya Sanghi of the Madhya Pradesh High Court by Dhanyakumar Jain, the President of the High Court Bar Council.

The complaint has been submitted to both the Chief Justice of India and the Madhya Pradesh High Court, alleging misconduct, defamation on social media, and behavior deemed insulting and unbecoming of a senior advocate.

The complaint claims that since being designated as a Senior Advocate, Sanghi has taken to sitting in seats reserved for judges. Despite multiple requests from the Bar Council to vacate these seats, he has refused.

This issue reached a peak during the farewell ceremony for Justice Arvind Sushrut Dharmadhikari, where Sanghi occupied a judge’s seat. Jain reportedly made repeated requests, folding his hands and asking Sanghi to sit next to former president and senior advocate Umakant Sharma.

However, Sanghi allegedly ignored these requests, used abusive language, and replied,

“You don’t know how to talk to a Senior Advocate with respect,”

Jain further alleges that after the incident, Sanghi has sent him a series of insulting and defamatory messages through WhatsApp and social media. In these messages, Sanghi reportedly referred to himself as a “hero” and labeled the Bar Council a “goons’ bar.”

He has allegedly made statements such as,

“This bar is a goons’ bar, its president is a goon. The real bar is the High Court Advocate Bar established by my late father J. P. Sanghi, and I will file an affidavit in the Supreme Court to get this bar de-recognised.”

Jain expressed concern that Sanghi may be conspiring with anti-Bar members to instigate significant disruptions. He has urged the court to thoroughly investigate the matter and determine whether Sanghi is fit to retain the title of Senior Advocate.

The complaint has been forwarded not only to the Madhya Pradesh High Court but also to the Chief Justice of India, the Jabalpur High Court Advocate Bar Association, and the Senior Advocate Bar Council.

Additionally, there have been numerous allegations circulating in the High Court that Sanghi has accepted fees for cases but failed to take any subsequent action. One junior advocate reportedly referred an Economic Offences Wing (EOW) case to Sanghi, with officers pooling Rs.95,000 as fees.

However, Sanghi neither filed an appeal nor took any further steps. The advocate who referred the case subsequently filed a complaint with the Bar Council.

Sources within the High Court indicate that several such complaints against Sanghi are pending, alleging that he accepted fees without following through on cases. Reports suggest that the Bar Council has received multiple complaints of this nature.
