Mumbai: A social activist from Mumbai has filed a criminal complaint against YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia (Beer Biceps), comedian Samay Raina, YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani, and other organizers of the show ‘India’s Got Latent,’ accusing them of spreading obscenity and vulgarity through their controversial remarks.

The complaint was submitted by activist Nikhil Ruparel through advocate Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh in the Bandra Magistrate Court. Ruparel, who serves as the president of the National Delegate NSUI Student Wing (Congress), has raised serious concerns over the content aired during a bonus episode of ‘India’s Got Latent’ on YouTube.

According to the complaint, Ranveer Allahbadia allegedly made an obscene comment, which was widely circulated on social media and triggered a strong backlash. Ruparel described the remark as “deeply offensive, obscene, and against public decency.”

The episode, shot on November 14, 2024, at Khar Habitat but released recently, reportedly featured consistent use of abusive language by panelists including Allahbadia, Raina, Chanchlani, and Apoorva Makhija.

Ruparel has argued that using such offensive language on a public platform contributes to the normalization of disrespectful behavior, particularly affecting younger audiences.

“The repeated exposure to such language can normalize disrespectful behavior, erode mutual respect, and desensitize young individuals to the consequences of their words, fostering an environment of hostility and aggression,”

the complaint stated.

As per the complaint, the offensive content allegedly violates several provisions of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act (IT Act), including:

  • Section 296 of BNS – Pertains to obscene acts in public spaces.
  • Section 67 of the IT Act – Prohibits the publication and transmission of obscene material in electronic form.

“The accused has made a statement that has the potential to create public mischief and outrage among various sections of society,”

Ruparel stated.

Ruparel has urged the Bandra Magistrate Court to take cognizance of the matter and issue summons to the accused.

Additionally, similar complaints have been filed by others, including advocate Satyam Surana, who practices before the Bombay High Court.

Reports indicate that Mumbai Police have already initiated an inquiry into the matter, which could lead to further legal action.
