Kolkata: Kolkata witnessed a silent yet powerful protest on Sunday as doctors and people from all walks of life came together to mark the first birthday of the R G Kar Hospital rape-murder victim since her tragic death last year. The rally, organized to demand justice, was a solemn reminder of the horrific crime that shook the city on August 9 last year.
The rally began at College Square, near the Calcutta University campus, and covered nearly five kilometers, culminating near R G Kar Medical College and Hospital in north Kolkata. The march was organized by ‘Abhaya Manch’, a platform advocating justice for the victim.
Participants, including doctors and concerned citizens, marched in complete silence, their mouths tied with black cloths as a sign of protest. They also held placards demanding justice, urging authorities to ensure that the perpetrators face the strictest punishment.
One of the organizers explained that the rally was kept silent out of respect for students appearing for the West Bengal Class 10 board exams, which begin on Monday.
Sunday’s march not only marked the first birthday of the victim but also served as a reminder of the six-month milestone since the shocking incident. The case continues to spark outrage, with citizens demanding swift justice and stricter measures to prevent such crimes in the future.
The silent march sent a strong message of solidarity, proving that the fight for justice is far from over.
