Johar, represented by legal firm DSK Legal, has filed a suit in the Bombay High Court seeking a permanent injunction against the film’s producers, IndiaPride Advisory Pvt. Ltd., Sanjay Singh, and writer-director Bablu Singh.
In the suit, Johar argues that the film’s title directly infringes upon his personality rights, rights to publicity, and privacy. He asserts that he has no association with the movie and its creators, and their use of his name in the title is unlawful.
Johar further claims that this unauthorized usage exploits his goodwill and reputation, which he has built over time with significant investments.
“The trailers and posters have already inflicted and continue to inflict irreparable harm to the Plaintiff’s goodwill and reputation. Moreover, the release of the film under a title incorporating his brand name ‘Karan Johar,’ whether wholly or partially, will inevitably lead to irreversible detriment to the goodwill and reputation painstakingly cultivated through extensive investments of time, effort, and financial resources,” as stated in the suit.
Given the urgency of the matter, the suit was mentioned for an urgent stay on the film’s release, which is scheduled for June 14.
Single-judge Justice RI Chagla has agreed to hear the plea for urgent relief on Thursday.

Johar’s legal team argues that the release of the film’s trailers and posters, featuring his name, has already caused irreparable damage to his reputation. They contend that allowing the film to be released with his name in the title would further harm his goodwill.
