WEST BENGAL: The Calcutta High Court today( on 8th April), has issued a directive in the cases involving Trinamool leader Arabul Islam of Bhangar, demanding a comprehensive report from the state. Justice Joy Sengupta, presiding over the case, has directed the state to provide information on the number of cases filed against Arabul and the associated charge sheets within eight days.
The next hearing for this case is scheduled for April 16.
Arabul’s wife, Jahanara Bibi, has approached the High Court, accusing the police of targeting her with excessive legal actions. She alleges a malicious plot to implicate her in multiple cases prior to the Lok Sabha polls.

Despite Arabul’s arrest, new cases continue to be filed against him, escalating the charges. Jahanara Bibi has urged the police to disclose the total number of cases pending against Arabul. During Monday’s proceedings, Arabul’s lawyer questioned the role of Trinamool MLA Shaukat Mollah, claiming that he instigated a series of complaints against Arabul. In response, the court has sought a comprehensive list of all the cases related to this matter.
Arabul Islam has personally voiced his complaints in court, mentioning that he was initially arrested in one case, but two more cases were recently added to his legal record. With the Lok Sabha elections approaching, Arabul, a notable figure in the Trinamool party, alleges that there are deliberate attempts to implicate him.
Last Tuesday, Arabul’s attorney brought this issue to the attention of Justice Joy Sengupta of the Calcutta High Court. As a result, the judge has requested information from the state regarding the overall count of cases against Arabul.
Arabul, regarded as a ‘fresh leader’ within the Trinamool party, was arrested on February 8. In addition to murder charges, he has been accused of vandalizing government property and engaging in gang attacks with firearms.
Earlier, Arabul had sought bail from the court of Baruipur Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, citing his prolonged illness and home treatment. His lawyer argued that Arabul’s health condition warranted his release on bail.

Consequently, the security measures for Arabul and his son Hakimul Mullah were intensified.
