NEW DELHI: Today(on 2nd March), The Patiala House Court in Delhi, the ruling on the cancellation report submitted by the Delhi Police in a POCSO case involving former WFI Chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has been pushed back. Special (POCSO) Judge Chhavi Kapoor disclosed that the decision, originally scheduled for April 23, 2024, has been deferred.

This started unfolding on June 15 when the Delhi Police presented a cancellation report in the Patiala House Court, a significant development in the POCSO case against Singh, initially filed based on a complaint by a minor female wrestler. A notice was subsequently issued to the complainant and her father on July 4, initiating a sequence of events that led to the present decision delay.

The complexity heightened with the filing of a charge sheet in the Rouse Avenue Court, specifically addressing a sexual harassment allegation linked to the case. Following the court’s acknowledgment of the charge sheet, a summons was issued to Singh, who later appeared before the court and was granted bail.

The turning point occurred on August 1, 2023, when the court reserved its judgment on the cancellation report, taking into consideration the responses of the minor wrestler and her father. In an unexpected development, both parties chose not to contest the cancellation report.

Public Prosecutor Atul Srivastava shed light on their perspective, stating-

“The minor wrestler and her father did not oppose the cancellation report filed by the Delhi Police.”

Srivastava further elaborated, confirming-

“They are satisfied with the investigation of Delhi Police.”

Notably, the court proceedings were conducted behind closed doors, ensuring confidentiality through in-camera proceedings.

The chronological sequence of events provides a comprehensive overview of the legal proceedings. On June 15, the Delhi Police filed a cancellation report, prompting a notice issuance on July 4. The subsequent appearance of the involved parties, their contentment with the police investigation, and the eventual decision delay underscore the intricacies of the case against Singh.

The ambiguity surrounding the POCSO case against BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh persists, with The conclusive judgment is presently scheduled for April 23, 2024.
