NEW DELHI: On Tuesday (23rd April): Patanjali Ayurved Limited co-founders, Yoga guru Ramdev and Balkrishna, have issued a new public apology in newspapers, following a contempt case hearing in the Supreme Court. The court had questioned the size and visibility of a previous apology issued by the company regarding misleading advertisements. In their new “unconditional public apology,” Patanjali expresses remorse for non-compliance with the Supreme Court’s directions and vows to rectify their mistakes.

Patanjali Ayurved Limited, co-founded by Yoga guru Ramdev and Balkrishna, released a fresh public apology in newspapers following a Supreme Court contempt case hearing. The court had raised concerns regarding the size and visibility of an earlier apology issued by the company, which addressed misleading advertisements.
The new “unconditional public apology” from Patanjali, published with larger and more prominent fonts, acknowledges the ongoing matter before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. It serves as an apology in both the company’s and the founders’ individual capacities. Patanjali expresses unconditional remorse for the non-compliance and disobedience of the court’s directions and orders.
“We unconditionally extend the apology for holding meeting/press conference dated 22.11.2023. We earnestly apologize for the mistake made in publishing our advertisements and it is our whole- hearted commitment that such errors will not be repeated. We undertake to abide by directions and instructions of the Hon’ble Court with due care and utmost sincerity. We undertake to uphold the majesty of the court and comply with applicable laws and directions of the Hon’ble Court of law/relevant authorities,” the Patanjali public apology adds.
The apology specifically addresses the mistake made in publishing advertisements and extends a heartfelt commitment to avoid such errors in the future. Patanjali emphasizes its willingness to abide by the court’s instructions with utmost sincerity and care.

Previously, Ramdev and Balkrishna had offered an “unconditional and unqualified apology” to the Supreme Court regarding advertisements that made exaggerated claims about the medicinal efficacy of Patanjali’s products. During the recent hearing, the Supreme Court questioned Ramdev and Balkrishna about the visibility and placement of their apology in newspapers.
The bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah inquired
“Is it the same size of advertisements that you normally issue in newspapers?”
Responding on behalf of Ramdev and Balkrishna, senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi informed the bench that the Unqualified apology had been published across 67 newspapers nationwide.
In response, senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing Ramdev and Balkrishna, informed the bench that they had issued an unqualified apology for their lapses on Monday.
The bench then inquired about the publication of the apology, asking where it had been published. In reply, Mukul Rohatgi stated that the apology had been published in 67 newspapers across the country.
In response to the bench’s request, it was stated,
“The said advertisements are not on record. It is submitted that the same have been collated and shall be filed in the course of the day with copies to counsel for the parties. Needful shall be done within two days with copies to counsel for the parties.”

Seeking further clarification, the bench asked if the apology had been published prominently, urging the advocate to file a copy of the published apology as evidence. The court expressed its intention to review the actual apology published in newspapers.
To ensure transparency, the bench instructed that the published apologies be filed within two days, with copies provided to all concerned parties. The court scheduled a hearing on April 30 to consider the matter related to the apology issued by Ramdev and Balkrishna.
