Amit Shah has assured the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) before the 2024 polls. The commitment aims to grant citizenship to those persecuted in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, not to revoke Indian citizenship. Shah’s pledge underscores the government’s determination to address the issue before the upcoming elections.

During the ET Global Business Summit 2024, Union Home Minister Amit Shah claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would secure 370 seats, with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) getting over 400 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He was sure that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would lead the Government for a third term. Amit Shah emphasized that the Congress and other opposition parties had accepted their fate in the opposition, acknowledging the expected victory of the BJP.

At the ET NOW Global Business Summit 2024, Mr. Shah expressed confidence, stating, “We have abrogated Article 370 (of the Constitution, which granted special status to the former state of Jammu and Kashmir).” He expressed that the people of the nation would favor the BJP with 370 seats and the NDA with over 400 seats.”

Amit Shah also stated that the upcoming elections as a choice between development and empty promises rather than a battle between political groups. He criticized Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, blaming Gandhi’s Congress party for India’s partition in 1947.

Regarding potential additions to the NDA, Shah suggested that the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) might join the coalition. However, he pointed out the BJP’s cautious approach to coalition expansion, preferring strategic alliances over rushed political moves.

Amit Shah, the Home Minister, responded to queries about including the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

He hinted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is open to more parties joining, saying,

“We believe in family planning but not in politics.” Shah mentioned ongoing talks with the SAD but clarified that nothing has been finalized. He stressed that the 2024 elections would be about choosing between development and empty promises, rather than just NDA versus the opposition party.

On the recent white paper presented in Parliament, Shah defended its timing, stating it was crucial to highlight the challenges that from the previous United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government. He highlighted the BJP’s efforts in revitalizing the economy and fighting corruption since taking office in 2014.

While addressing the controversial issues, Shah affirmed the BJP’s commitment to implementing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) before the elections. He clarified that the CAA aimed to provide citizenship to persecuted minorities from neighboring countries without revoking anyone’s Indian citizenship. Shah also reiterated the BJP’s support for a Uniform Civil Code (UCC), emphasizing its role in upholding secular principles and fostering social harmony”.

Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the Government’s determination to implement key legislative agendas and uphold the nation’s constitutional values ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
