Sultanpur (Uttar Pradesh), January 9: In a case related to the violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), charges could not be framed against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on Thursday as he was absent in court. The case is being heard in the MP/MLA court in Sultanpur.
Special Public Prosecutor Vaibhav Pandey stated that Sanjay Singh, along with 12 other accused, is facing charges for violating the MCC and the Epidemic Act. The case pertains to a public meeting held in April 2021 in Hasanpur to support an AAP district panchayat candidate.
Pandey elaborated, “The incident occurred on April 13, 2021, when the Station House Officer (SHO) of Bandhua Kala, Praveen Kumar Singh, filed an FIR accusing Singh of conducting a public meeting at 3.30 pm.”
He further added, “The meeting lacked official permission, and Singh was accompanied by 50-60 people.” This was deemed a violation of the Epidemic Act and other applicable regulations.
Following an investigation, the police filed a chargesheet against Sanjay Singh and others who were present at the meeting, including Maqsood Ansari, Salim Ansari, Jagdish Yadav, Maqsood, Sukai, Dharmaraj, Zeeshan, Shaban, Sikandar, Jalil, and Ajay. While the AAP leader did not appear in court during previous hearings, other accused individuals in the case had already secured bail, as mentioned by Pandey.
Earlier, the court had issued a bailable warrant against Sanjay Singh for skipping several hearings and fixed June 29 as the next date of hearing. Special Public Prosecutor Vaibhav Pandey said that on April 13, 2021, an FIR was registered against Sanjay Singh at Bandhu Kala police station, alleging that he held a meeting in Hasanpur village in favor of the AAP’s district panchayat member Salma Begum.
