Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar was born on August 14, 1963, in Hyderabad. His father, Mr. P. Ramachandra Reddy, was a distinguished legal professional who served as the Advocate General of Andhra Pradesh from 1969 to 1982.
Justice Kumar completed his Commerce degree from Nizam College, Hyderabad, and later pursued a law degree from Delhi University, graduating in 1988. The same year, he enrolled in the legal profession. Justice Kumar began his career in law by working at his father’s office before serving as a government pleader from 2000 to 2003.
On August 8, 2008, he was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, which later became the Telangana High Court following the bifurcation of the state. Before his transfer in October 2019, Justice Kumar was the second senior-most Judge at the Telangana High Court.
In February 2021, he was appointed Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court, marking another significant milestone in his judicial journey. Thereafter, in February,2023 , he was elevated to the Supreme Court as a sitting judge and will hold office till August,2028.
