Justice Prasanth Kumar Mishra was born on August 29, 1964, in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh. He completed his B.Sc. and LL.B. at Guru Ghasidas University, Bilaspur, and enrolled as an advocate in 1984.
Justice Mishra began his legal practice at the District Court in Raigarh before moving on to the Madhya Pradesh High Court and later the Chhattisgarh High Court. In 2005, he was designated as a Senior Advocate by the Chhattisgarh High Court.He served as Chairperson of the Chhattisgarh Bar Council for two years and was also an Ex-Officio Member of Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur. On June 26, 2004, he was appointed as the Additional Advocate General for Chhattisgarh, a position he held for over three years. On September 1, 2007, he was elevated to Advocate General for the state.
Justice Mishra was elevated to the Bench as a Judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court on December 10, 2009. In June 2021, he was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court. Later that year, on October 11, he was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court and assumed office on October 13, 2021.

On May 16, 2023, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended his elevation to the Supreme Court. The recommendation emphasized the need for equal representation from various High Courts, particularly noting the under-representation of the Chhattisgarh High Court.
